This week, the Epic Games Store has two free games that combine action with role-playing elements and strategy with unusual mechanics.

The Epic Games Store is once again giving away two games that couldn’t be more different: an action-packed loot shooter and an unusual strategy game that will put your guessing skills to the test.

To get your free games, simply log in to the store with your Epic account and add the two titles to your library between May 8 and May 15, 2025, at 5 p.m. They will then remain in your library permanently.

Touch Type Tale

Touch Type Tale is perhaps the most unusual strategy title of recent years – because instead of using a mouse and hotkeys, you control your units by typing quickly and accurately on the keyboard. Every action, whether it’s building a barracks, moving a unit, or issuing an attack command, is triggered by written commands.

At first, this sounds like an unusual gimmick, but especially in the later missions of the extensive single-player campaign, even seasoned keyboard warriors are likely to break a sweat when multitasking is required and every second counts. Those who want to perfect their typing skills can even compete in online PvP.

Deadtime Defenders

The second free game of the week is a fast-paced side-scrolling shooter that combines classic arcade action with role-playing elements. You take on the role of a heavily armed hero, fight your way through hordes of hideous monsters, and collect tons of loot that you can invest directly in new skills and upgrades.

Thanks to a clever level system and numerous customization options, each round plays a little differently – perfect for those who like to tweak their builds.

With Deadtime Defenders and Touch Type Tale, this week’s two free games couldn’t be more different – but both have a lot of potential in their own way. Will you take the chance to dive deep into this unusual strategy game? Let us know in the comments!
