The free Half-Life 2 RTX enters the demo phase. Fittingly, the PC system requirements are extremely demanding at high levels.

The shooting legend is dead, long live the better-lit shooting legend: Half-Life 2 RTX has, as previously announced, entered its first demo phase.

Raytracing is the core of the approximately two-hour preview of the fan remaster, which is brought to life with the help of Nvidia RTX Remix. New assets and textures are also on board in Half-Life 2 RTX.

The graphical overhaul also comes at a price, however: just in time for the demo release of Half-Life 2 RTX, the development team at Orbifold Studios has published the corresponding system requirements. The following three configurations are available to choose from:

Half-Life 2 RTX PC requirements
“Minimum” (1080p / 30 FPS / Low)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti
  • Storage: 50 GByte SSD
“Recommended” (1080p / 60 FPS / High)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 4070
  • Storage: 50 GByte SSD
“Ultra” (2160p / 144 FPS / Ultra)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
  • Memory: 32 GByte RAM
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 5080
  • Memory: 50 GByte SSD

The sticking point with the above-mentioned resolution, refresh rate and graphics preset targets: All levels require the use of DLSS.

At least the same Steam posthas the same Steam postan extremely detailed list of which settings are officially considered “optimal”:

The list also includes the recommended DLSS model. Basically, Nvidia names the new Transformer model introduced with DLSS 4 from the RTX 40 series onwards.

In addition, an SSD is a requirement in the context of the hard disk; at 50 GB, the required storage space is still comparatively modest compared to current AAA titles.

Also striking: If you want to enjoy Half-Life 2 RTX in maximum graphics splendor, one of the hard-to-find RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 is a must.

Likewise, the RTX 50 exclusive Multi Frame Generation with quadruple frame generation, which is also available in DLSS 4, must be active to achieve the promised fps in 4K resolution.
