This weekend is all about giving away some really big games for good. Other games are temporarily free to play.

This weekend, a lot of people will probably plunge into the fantastic world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but maybe you’re not one of them! Maybe you’d rather wait for a sale or don’t care about the Middle Ages – and that’s where all the free offers that will be available again this weekend on Steam, Epic and Co. potentially come into play.

So let’s start with the highlight:

Keep it free: Humankind

  • Genre: 4X Strategy
  • Developer: Amplitude
  • Release: August 2021

In 2021, Humankind made headlines as a major challenge to Civilization’s genre-leading crown. It didn’t make it to the top then – many of the mechanics were too superficial and the technical problems too great for that – but especially after all these years of patches, Humankind is now a really, really good 4X strategy game in which you lead your civilization from the Stone Age into the modern age.

You have a much more flexible construction kit for creating your own cultures than you do with the direct competition, and the game also inherits the tactical height and terrain differences from Amplitude’s last 4X game Endless Legend. This makes combat in particular wonderfully versatile, especially since the culture building set also allows for adventurous combinations of historical units that would never have stood together on the front lines in the real world.

The game normally costs a whopping 50 euros full price, but is currently being given away on the Epic Games Store Once you add the game to your library, you can keep it until the end of time.

More free games

And now the rest of the games in quick succession:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 lets you try out the regular multiplayer and zombie mode for free to coincide with the start of Season 2. So you can shoot your way across all the multiplayer maps and shave hordes of undead. The promotion runs until February 10.
  • Green Hell is not only one of the best, but also one of the most difficult survival games out there. In the depths of the Amazon jungle, not washing your hands before eating could cost you your life. You can try out the game for free on Steam until Monday, but with the current discount, you only pay just under 7 zeros for the full version.

  • The 2012 version of RPG Maker VX Ace is not the latest iteration of the famous game-making tool, but it is still a very powerful tool for building the role-playing games of your dreams. Normally, this thing costs around 70 euros, but you can currently add it to your shopping cart on Steam and keep it forever.
  • In Beyond Blue, you explore the depths of the sea and document all kinds of sea creatures, a legacy of classics like Endless Ocean. Like Humankind, the game is being given away in the Epic Games Store

Are you going to try any of this? Or are you actually immersed in the world of Kingdom Come 2? Or will we see you in Marvel Rivals? Feel free to tell us what you’re playing over the weekend, we always appreciate a bit of life below these articles.
