According to a recent press release from Ubisoft, the latest Assassin’s Creed installment is being postponed again. The release date is now set for March 20, 2025.

A little more than a month still separated Assassin’s Creed fans from the release of the latest installment of the series, with the eagerly awaited Japan setting, Assassin’s Creed Shadows Now we know: You’ll have to wait a little longer.

In a surprise statement released on January 9, the Ubisoft management announced that AC Shadows will be postponed again, this time by one month Instead of February 14, the release is now scheduled for March 20, 2025. The press release states:

As part of our commitment to gameplay quality and a compelling Day 1 experience, it was decided to grant Assassin’s Creed Shadows an additional month of development.

This additional time will allow the team to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the last three months and to set up the best conditions for launch by continuing to work closely with the increasingly positive Assassin’s Creed community. The game is now scheduled for March 20.

Assassin’s Creed Twitter account It explains that they want to use the additional development time to polish the game even further.

What does this mean for Ubisoft’s future?

The press release also indicates that Ubisoft plans to take a different strategic approach in the coming fiscal year. Among other things, major cost-cutting measures totaling around 200 million euros are planned. A first sign of this was the announcement in December that the shooter XDefiant and three Ubisoft studios would be closed. It is quite possible that further layoffs will follow.

With the recent postponement of Shadows, the profit expectations for the current 2024-2025 financial year are also likely to be significantly lower. That’s because Ubisoft doesn’t have much time left between now and the financial year-end in April to get Shadows out to the masses and improve its poor financial performance.
