A new survival game is causing laughter by blatantly copying elements from Horizon Zero Dawn – including the protagonist, machine creatures and music.
Sure, sometimes you come across games that are obviously inspired by others. And then there are titles like
Horizon Zero Dawn? Nah, it just looks like it
A quick glance at the trailer is enough to see the obvious parallels:
- Protagonist? A young, red-haired woman.
- Setting? A post-apocalyptic open world populated by machine creatures.
- Gameplay? Big boss fights that require timing and precision.
- Soundtrack?And it will sound familiar.
To be fair, Light of Motiram doesn’t just copy, it also has a few ideas of its own. The game places a great deal of emphasis on survival and crafting mechanics.
You can build a variety of buildings here – with realistic physics systems. What’s more, the taming and training of mechanimals is supposed to be much more extensive than in Guerrilla’s original. Over 100 mechanical creatures are available, and you can customize them – so the whole thing is more in the direction of
Furthermore, Light of Motiram relies on co-op gameplay for up to ten players. This way, you can explore the wilderness together and play across platforms – at least if the game ever comes out. A release date is still pending.
Fans react with derision
But despite the differences, the feeling that something has been copied too obviously prevails. The YouTube comments on the trailer are a treasure trove of biting humor:

Sony’s lawyers are already laughing up their sleeves.
The question now is whether Sony will take action against the game. In the past, there have been legal actions against alleged copies – such as those taken by Nintendo against Palworld, which was heavily based on Pokémon. Should Sony choose this path, they would have to take action against the Chinese mega-corporation Tencent, because developer Polaris Quest is a subsidiary.
Whether it actually comes to a lawsuit remains to be seen. Light of Motiram has already achieved cult status as one of the most brazen copies of recent years.
