According to a usually well-informed insider, Respawn could soon be breathing new life into its shooter series

Respawn has made a name for itself in recent years with the two Star Wars games Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel Jedi: Survivor. Before that, the development studio had already created a shooter series that fans have been waiting years to see return.

We’re talking about Titanfall, of course. Also about Titanfall 3? No, we’re going to pull that one right out from under you at this point, sorry. Nevertheless, there is good news: A new Titanfall is still coming, just in a different form.

A game in the Titanfall universe

A game in the Titanfall universe

In the latest episode of the YouTube format Game Mess Mornings the usually well-informed industry insider Jeff Grubb chats about a new Titanfall project now in development at Respawn.

This is not the third part, but at least it plays in the same universe as the two shooters and the Battle Royale spin-off Apex Legends

…] As far as I know, at least as of today, this game is a Titanfall game, it’s set in the Titanfall universe. But everyone I talk to always says […] don’t think it’s Titanfall 3, so it’s a game with online multiplayer and a single-player campaign. I then say: Wait, what? What kind of game is this? I still don’t know. […]

And then I’m reminded that they were working on Titanfall 3 essentially with Titanfall Legends, which was supposed to be a part of Apex Legends, and they pulled the plug on that project, so it seems very unlikely that they would change their strategy and go back and actually end up making Titanfall 3.

So there’s currently no exact information about what this new Titanfall game is supposed to be – but there is supposed to be one, which should still be good news for many fans.

Yes, what about Titanfall 3?

You’re not going to let Titanfall 3 put you off, are you? Alright, time for a recap:

We also reported on Titanfall: Legends , which Jeff Grubb mentioned. The project fell victim to some restructuring at Electronic Arts at the beginning of 2023 – just like another Respawn game recently, namely a still nameless first-person shooter in the Star Wars universe.

Officially, however, this project never bore the name Titanfall 3. The story then went back and forth over the course of 2023. In April, Respawn boss Vince Zampella went on record to say that he would love a third part of the series

Only two months later, the announcement: Titanfall 3 was actually in development – but was discontinued after just a few months. The first levels are said to have already been playable. Fans were so close to a sequel to their beloved shooter series

Why is Titanfall so popular? Apart from the fast-paced multiplayer battles in sleek mechs, the eponymous Titans, the second part was particularly impressive with its spectacular single-player campaign, as our test also praised at the time.

So it’s no wonder that many fans are longing for a sequel of some kind. What do you think of the shooter series? Are you looking forward to a new Titanfall game, in whatever form? Or could only a real Titanfall 3 entice you back onto the battlefield? Let us know what you think in the comments below:
