In a few days, the League of Legends EMEA Championship will kick off the Winter Split 2024. Reason enough to take a look at the participating teams

After T1 celebrated its fourth World Championship last year, all eyes are now on the future and the new League of Legends season. Once again, developer Riot Games has turned the update screw and presented new content and changes.

There have also been plenty of changes in the LEC, EMEA’s top league. New teams have joined the fray, while familiar names have disappeared from the scene. While Karmine Corp finally made the leap into the LEC after what felt like an eternity, Astralis disappeared from the usual field of participants. The Danish eSports organization wants to focus on Counter-Strike 2 in the future and is therefore saying goodbye to its own League of Legends roster

New names & old acquaintances

Team Excel from England, on the other hand, merges with the Spanish organization Giants to form GIANTX. This move also brings the Giant franchise back to Europe’s top division. Between 2013 and 2018, Giant Gaming was already part of the league, which was still known as the EU LCS at the time. Fans can also look forward to the return of Rogue as an LEC team. As KOI and Rogue rights holder Infinite Reality ended their collaboration, the 2022 Summer Champion is returning to the league

KOI then began a collaboration with the MAD Lions, which is why they will now compete as the MAD Lions KOI.

Start of the LEC

The Winter Split starts next Saturday, January 13, 2024, with the match between G2 Esports and Team BDS. In contrast to last year, one match day will now start one hour earlier at 5:00 pm instead of 6:00 pm as before. However, the LEC will continue to hold the matches on the weekend and the following Monday

First matchday schedule:

  • 17:00 – G2 vs BDS
  • 18:00 – SK vs RGE
  • 19:00 – FNC vs KC
  • 20:00 – GX vs VIT
  • 21:00 – MDK vs TH
