The Axis Unseen, the upcoming heavy metal horror, has now received official development updates. The creator behind the one-man project has already worked on Skyrim

With his own development studio Just Purkey Games, Nate Purkeypile, who is best known for his work on Bethesda’s biggest titles such as Skyrim, Starfield and Fallout 4, is launching his first major solo project: The Axis Unseen.

The open world in an unusual heavy metal horror setting is said to be five times bigger than Skyrim and is set in a folklore-inspired world in which you hunt monsters armed with a bow and arrow.

(After regular updates on X) (formerly Twitter) about the game’s development, the adventure is getting closer and closer – as The Axis Unseen officially enters alpha.

In Géraldine’s preview you can gain a deeper insight into what awaits you in the dark folklore open world. You can watch the trailer for the game right here:

The current state of The Axis Unseen

In Purkeypile’s latest tweet, he announces that The Axis Unseen is now officially in alpha. This means that the heavy metal horror is already playable, but there are still some bugs that need to be fixed

He would have played through the game within 20 hours, but reckons that most will need around 30 hours of playtime. This is because he strictly followed the main story without any distractions.

As for the status of the game programming, he jokingly reveals the final words of his update: “The game has only crashed twice and I know why. “

By the way, if you can’t imagine what “heavy metal horror” means at first: To make the atmosphere of its horror game even more oppressive, Just Purkey Games has snatched up Clifford Meyer, a well-known guitarist from the metal scene, to underpin the whole thing even “heavier”.

The release of the open world in a horror setting is planned for the PC via Steam and Epic Games Store for 2024, but there are no more precise dates yet. (On Steam) you can already add The Axis Unseen to your wishlist. We’ll keep you up to date!

Have you heard anything about The Axis Unseen? What’s your first impression of the spooky open world with an amazingly loud metal soundtrack? What do you like so far and where do you still have doubts? Will you be adding the game to your wishlist? Let us know what you think in the comments, we’d love to hear it!
