Rocket Racing is a full-fledged racing game in the style of Mario Kart, completely free of charge – and is currently breaking player records

Fortnite often decried as a children’s game due to its colorful visuals is on the verge of creating its own Metaverse right now. With the latest update, which was presented as part of the Big Bang Live event, developers can now create their own games in the game – just like Roblox or the ambitious Project Everywhere.

Epic itself had two games on board for the launch: Lego Fortnite, a survival and building game in the style of Minecraft, and Rocket Racing, a racing game from the developers of Rocket League.

Rocket Racing outperforms all other racing games

With over 500,000 simultaneously active players on the first day, Rocket Racing has proven to be a real crowd puller, leaving many established racing games in the dust in terms of popularity.

However, the great popularity is not only due to the fact that the title is completely free to play within Fortnite. Rocket Racing is already packed with content at release, with 26 tracks and numerous modes – including a ranked leaderboard.

The gameplay is very arcadey and reminiscent of Mario Kart: Drifts give you short bursts of speed and also charge your active boost, which you can use at any time. The higher you climb in rank, the more difficult tracks you unlock

On the later tracks, you will not only have to master drifting, but also drive along walls, avoid obstacles, find shortcuts and sometimes even fly hundreds of meters across the map without touching the ground. At around two to three minutes per game, the races are quite short and ideal for a few laps in between

You can get a good impression in the following video:

Rocket Racing is completely free to play, but there is a skin store where you can buy new cars, paint jobs, tires and more. This has no effect on the gameplay, all vehicles play identically. You can also use some of the skins you unlocked in Rocket League in race mode.

What do you think about the new possibilities in Fortnite and the new racing game from the Rocket League developers? Would such high-quality games convince you to install Fortnite – even if you don’t really want anything to do with the colorful shooter? Let us know in the comments!
