After two and a half years, Cyberpunk 2077 has risen significantly in Steam players’ favour. The developers express their gratitude for the support with emotional words.

The bumpy release hung Cyberpunk 2077 for a long time. So long, in fact, that many had long since given up on the idea of a big comeback – but over the course of the last two and a half years, major patches not only fixed the worst technical problems, but also brought popular features that the community had already wished for at launch.

Now this work of the developers is also reflected in the Steam reviews: There the role-playing game reached a new milestone.

Cyberpunk 2077 now at (Very positive)

Marcin Momot, Global Community Director of developer CD Projekt Red, points out on Twitter that Cyberpunk 2077 is now coming off “very positively” overall in the () user reviews on Steam. Specifically, 80 percent of all reviews (over 500,000 of them) recommend the game, with those from the last 30 days even reaching 87 percent.

Many now praise the game as a masterpiece, such as user Harogat:

My life has been shaped by numerous video games, but none has touched me as deeply as Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red. Considering the difficult circumstances the studio faced, including a damaging code theft and various technical challenges, the end result is nothing less than a triumphant work of art.

However, there are still critical scores, such as those that still find fault with the driving physics and where NPCs unattractively despawn as soon as they turn away from them.

This means that Steam is now almost on par with the (Metascore) of Cyberpunk 2077: The role-playing game has collected an average of 86 points in the press reviews, while the user score is still mixed with a 7.0. On GOG, CD Projekt’s gaming platform, the game has 3.7 stars out of 5.

The developers say thank you

At CD Projekt Red, the Steam milestone brings noticeable relief. Quest director Paweł Sasko writes on Twitter:

You have no idea how much this means. Thank you so much for all these reviews! We don’t take any of it for granted, there is still a lot to be done to regain your trust

Of course your opinion counts too! How do you rate Cyberpunk 2077 in the meantime? Has your opinion of CD Projekt Red’s role-playing game changed in the last few years or were you already sure at the time of release? And do you think that the game will be remembered more positively or negatively in ten years time?
