With Modern Warfare 3, two legendary maps are returning to Call of Duty’s multiplayer. We took a look at the maps.

So far there is very little reliable information about the new CoD title Modern Warfare 3, which is to be officially unveiled on 1 August. However, as a leak has now revealed on Twitter, we can apparently look forward to a comeback of two well-known and almost legendary maps from the Call of Duty history.

Two Classics

The leaked maps are the Terminal and Scrapyard maps already known from Modern Warfare 2 (2009). While parts of Terminal can already be found on the Warzone 2 map Al Mazrah, Scrapyard celebrates its big comeback in Call of Duty with Modern Warfare 3.

Even though the leaked images have since been deleted due to copyright infringement, as was to be expected, they have made many CoD players nostalgic.

Terminal in particular was one of the most popular maps in Modern Warfare 2 at the time and still makes CoD veterans go into raptures today. A reworked version of the map even made it into the sequel Modern Warfare 3 in 2011.

Controversy Map

Terminal may be familiar to many from the campaign mission “No Russian”, which was controversially discussed at the release of Modern Warfare 2. The mission involved the targeted shooting of defenceless civilians, which was strongly criticised by both the media and the public.

A little later, Activision responded to the criticism, putting a warning on the mission before it began and allowing it to be skipped. For many gamers, the mission remains to this day one of the most brutal and cold-blooded in gaming history.

The resulting multiplayer map Terminal is therefore forever associated with this mission in the minds of many CoD veterans.

Along with the mission, the map was reissued in 2020 in the Remastered campaign of Modern Warfare 2. Even if it did not generate comparable media coverage this time, it was probably no less brutal for many because of that.
