During the PlayStation Showcase, Bungie announced two pieces of news. Firstly, they introduced the upcoming shooter Marathon. On the other hand, they revealed the new expansion for Destiny 2.

Although Bungie is widely known as the development studio behind Destiny, the company is looking to establish itself as a multi-game studio. With an announcement of Marathon during last week”s PlayStation Showcase, they came a little closer to doing just that.

Marathon is an extraction shooter in which players take on the role of so-called runners  These are cybernetic mercenaries who were created for survival on the harsh planet Tau Ceti IV . A lost colony is said to have lived on this planet, which now needs to be explored.

The runners are travelling alone or in crews of three searching for mysterious alien artifacts, valuable  loot and new weapons and equipment to add to their collection.

Marathon, meanwhile, is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with cross-save and cross-play in mind. An exact release date has therefore not yet been set.

News on Destiny 2

Bungie didn”t just go into Marathon during the showcase though. They also said a few words about Destiny 2. They introduced the upcoming expansion The Final Form  Actor Nathan Fillion returns to the role of fan favourite Cayde-6 for this one, helping to gradually usher in the end for the now 10-year-long story between light and darkness.

Further details will be announced during the livestream on 22 August. You can watch this via (Twitch) and (YouTube)
