At the BAFTA Game Awards, a small indie game beat out big AAA competition to take the prize for Best Game 2022.

The best game of 2022 according to the BAFTA Game Awards was – drum roll – no, not Elden Ring. Not God of War Ragnarok either. And no, cat fans will be sorely disappointed, it wasn’t Stray either. The award for Best Game 2022 went to the pixelated roguelike Vampire Survivors.

The indie game with the simple graphics prevailed over the mighty competition thanks to great gameplay looping. And it also won a second prize. Why the gameplay of Vampire Survivors is extremely simple, but also incredibly fun!

Winners of the BAFTA Game Awards

What are the BAFTA Game Awards? In this annual show, game developers give out awards for the best titles of the past year. You can see the recorded stream from the BAFTA 2023 event (here on YouTube).

Vampire Survivors has thus won the race for Best Game. Developer Poncle took home another award namely the BAFTA Award for Design. Apparently they themselves were quite surprised by the success:
