The first trailer for the Super Mario Bros. movie is here! Yes, you read that right: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Bowser are returning to the big screen. This time, however, it’s in an animated version, unlike the real-life film version from 1993 starring Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper. The story of the new cinema version remains the usual … classic. The bitterly evil Bowser invades the Mushroom Kingdom with his Koopa troops, steals valuable stars and has it in for Princess Peach. Of course, this is where Mario and Luigi come in to stop the turtle.

In the original English version, Super Mario Bros. boasts a thick, if controversial, star line-up. Among others, Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Jack Black as Bowser and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong are involved. Quite a few fans criticise that they would have preferred to see professional voice actors in the roles instead of regular actors. Charles Martinet (the original voice actor for Mario in the games) is said to have at least a small role in the film.

Super Mario Bros. opens in cinemas on 23 March 2023.
