The former Battlefield developers show gameplay from The Finals for the first time – and it keeps the shooter scene on tenterhooks!

“Hey what the hell, this is exactly the kind of destruction we would have expected from Battlefield,” comments YouTuber DooM49 on the new scenes from The Finals – and he”s not alone: overnight, the first gameplay clip from the free2play shooter has reached more than 350,000 views via Twitter alone and is keeping shooter fans, but especially Battlefield followers, on tenterhooks. Influencer Westie, known for Battlefield content, also writes:

You should keep an eye on this. A team full of ex-DICE developers at Embark Studios are developing a pretty unique first-person shooter with maps that are completely destructible

And it is precisely this feature that is also responsible for the sudden hype surrounding The Finals: for the first time, we see the extremely impressive destruction of levels in action, whereby with enough explosives, entire blocks of houses can apparently be razed to the ground.

Alpha is coming sooner than expected

If you haven”t already: just watch the trailer at the top of the article for yourself, it”s really impressive stuff. Destruction physics like this have probably never been seen before in the shooter genre.

The trailer is accompanied by a surprising announcement: From 29 September the first players will be able to get their hands on The Finals, because then the closed alpha will start. If you want to be among the first to play The Finals, you can sign up at (on Steam by pressing a button).

The developers at Embark emphasise, however, that this is still a very early phase and that the game is far from being fully developed. They want to collect initial feedback with the alpha and test the technical infrastructure.

The complete destruction in the game is calculated on the server side, so that all participants always experience the exact same sequence of events and no desynchronisation occurs – a blown wall is therefore broken in the same way for all players in a match, everyone has the same lines of sight.

What is The Finals anyway?

The Finals simulates a fictional game show in which candidates compete like gladiators in a completely destructible (and trap-laden) arena to win tournaments, prize money and sponsors for themselves. Specifically, four teams of three players each will play against each other in an attempt to find and secure golden money boxes. Here you can see the first pictures from The Finals:

A large arsenal of weapons, skills and gadgets will be used in the competitions – the new trailer shows, among other things, the AK-47, the M60 machine gun, katanas, a sledgehammer, grappling hooks and a kind of spray gun that shoots fast-drying concrete.

Embark also has a second hot potato in the fire: the sci-fi co-op shooter Arc Raiders was supposed to be launched in 2022, but was postponed in favour of The Finals. The first gameplay scenes have also made an impression here!
