The fledgling development studio Embark Studios is postponing its free2play shooter Arc Raiders to make way for another multiplayer shooter.

Samurai, cars, machine guns: it’s all in the upcoming title from former vice-head Patrick Söderlund and his ex-Battlefield developers. Originally, the mysterious game, codenamed Project Discovery, was to be released after Arc Raiders, Embark Studios’ other project. However, plans have changed.

What’s behind Project Discovery?

We still know very little about the game. However, it is apparently a team-based first person shooter. The studio also released a little bit of gameplay back in November last year:

After this short video, of course, many questions remain unanswered – which unfortunately cannot be answered yet. However, Embark Studios has already announced that it will reveal more soon – as Gamescom is just around the corner, this would be a fitting occasion to do so.

Why the change of plans?

Originally, the free2play shooter Arc Raiders was supposed to be released this year and Project Discovery sometime after that. However, as the developers announced in a blog post, the development work on Project Discovery went better and faster than planned, which is why Embark Studios has now decided to bring the title forward and release Arc Raiders in 2023. This would also be positive for Arc, as they can now put even more time into the PvP mode for the Free2Play shooter.

When Project Discovery will be released is still unclear. However, a release this year is not too unlikely considering Arc Raiders has been delayed to 2023.
