With a lot of effort, fans have recreated a scene from the comic series The Last Ronin. Not only does it look good, but it’s also frighteningly dramatic.

Apparently 2022 is the year of the turtles. In August, fans will be treated to a new animated film on Netflix, and just recently the beat ’em up (Shredders Revenge) was released that lets you beat up bad guys in co-op with your turtle friends. This was a lot of fun for Heiko in the test, but it doesn’t offer a cinematically staged Turtles story:

But that’s exactly what a fan project is now delivering in the form of a short YouTube video. The elaborately animated clip shows a scene from the unusually dark comic series “The Last Ronin”, in which Michelangelo goes hunting for the Shredder’s successor.

The Turtles’ Darkest Hour

The video impresses with its level of detail and the generally high visual quality, but can also convince many fans with its dark atmosphere. You can watch the video for yourself below.

This short scene shows the end of the first chapter of The Last Ronin comic book series, written by the original creators of the Turtles. Thirty years in the future, New York’s rivers are poisoned and Manhattan is surrounded by a High Wall.

Michelangelo sneaks back into the city as the last survivor of the Turtles to avenge his family’s death and kill the leader of the Foot Clan. The video begins after a failed attack on the latter’s fortress, in which Michelangelo escaped only badly injured. Now he is even thinking about committing sepukku, a ritualised suicide.

What do you think of the video? Would you like to see a film about The Last Ronin, or is the scenario a bit too dark for you? Feel free to write your opinion in the comments!
