Not for the faint-hearted: Artificial intelligence-generated images of beloved game characters in a real, disfigured version. You don’t even want to look!

It’s remarkable what artificial intelligence is now capable of. For example, making 120-year-old films shine in 4K or creating real versions of famous comic book characters. Sometimes, however, the results can be disturbing, as examples from the tool Midjourney show.

It is still in a beta phase, for which you can apply at midjourney.com. The AI generates images based on text input, such as an abstract field full of daisies.

Exactly what words Reddit user EarlGrey_Picard used for the image below of Super Mario and Luigi, we don’t know, but one thing is for sure: this has nothing to do with the cuddly Italian plumber many remember well from their childhood days and gladly far beyond.

But there’s more bad news: The Reddit user has been shockingly happy to disfigure more popular game characters on demand. Think twice before scrolling further down!

Super Mario is just the beginning

Super Mario is thus followed by more defenceless game characters who have fallen victim to the AI tool. To be more precise, these are the ones here:

  • Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy 7
  • Yoshi from the Super Mario universe
  • Zero Suit Samus from the Metroid and Super Smash Bros. series

You can find the matching pictures below, but don’t say afterwards that we didn’t warn you!

If you need some distraction after watching these scenes, but still find the AI topic intriguing, We have Somthing for you!

Are there any specific characters that come to mind directly for the experiment with the Midjourney app? Or do you just find it cruel what was done to our poor, virtual heroes by artificial intelligence? Feel free to write it in the comments!
