The sophisticated 4X strategy game in the Dune universe recently entered Early Access. Some things already looked very good, but the developers from Shiro Games still have to work on some weak points. To this end, an official Early Access roadmap for Dune: Spice Wars has now been presented.

What to expect in the future with Dune: Spice Wars

In Dune: Spice Wars, players choose between Atreides, Harkonnen, Smugglers or Fremen to control the planet and thus the Spice. The challenge is to make the best use of stealth, open warfare, politics and economics to stay one step ahead of opponents and leave them in the dust behind as players manoeuvre their way through the natural hazards of Dune and its giant sandworms.

The roadmap promises some big new features like a multiplayer mode, a new faction and hero units. But that’s not all, content may still change or new ones may be added. In addition to the new features, players can expect increasing improvements with each update. The fact that you will finally be able to conquer the dunes together with other players is a major highlight of the upcoming updates. It’s just a pity that the single player is not (yet) being expanded and that there is nothing about a single player campaign in the roadmap for Dune: Spice Wars. But this can still change, of course, as the developers still have some time before the release. The fact that there will soon be a fifth faction is incredibly exciting when you look at how different and partly completely different the four current races play.

Legendary characters from Dune are also to be integrated into the game as advisors and controllable hero units and given more exciting functions. The “Air and Sand” update reveals even deeper warfare, including new units and tactical elements.

As experienced Early Access developers, Funcom and Shiro Games know the value of community feedback and take it seriously, which is why the features mentioned in the roadmap are still subject to change. This also means that new features can be added and existing ones can be dropped. So it remains exciting to see how the strategy game with the large licence will develop in the coming months.
