Pay 2 Win in FIFA Mobile – worse than the original

The latest version of FIFA Mobile has been out since 1/18/2022. However, the Pay 2 Win factor is the only thing that stands out.

FIFA by EA Sports has long been criticised for being a money printing machine for Electronic Arts with its Ultimate Team mode through Pay 2 Win. You have to put together your team and need cards for it. These can be earned laboriously or you can invest your pocket money.

Because children and young people who buy the game every year at full price want to be able to keep up with the teams of their colleagues and classmates in the playground.

FIFA Mobile is no exception

The latest version of FIFA Mobile has been released on 18 January. Actually, a gameplay review would have been appropriate. But after eternal tutorials and skill games for which you get some tokens with which you can make some games of chance to hopefully get a mediocre card, the game was simply a rather slimmed down version of the actual football simulation.

From the very first start, it is clear that Pay 2 Win is also a big issue in this version. Goal tokens, basic points, FIFA Points, Gems, Coins, Skill Boosts and and and…. The number of in-game currencies is hard to keep track of. You get a few of these currencies every now and then, but not enough to really afford anything.

Instead, more of these currencies are offered at a high price for real money. Even better, one offers an in-game currency for another in-game currency, which in turn can be bought with real money. Clever, isn’t it?

Small calculation example

If you want to use the TOTW special offer, it costs 1500 FIFA Points or 3750 Gems. You can’t buy 1500 FIFA Points, but only 1050 Points or 2200 Points. These then cost 19,99€.

Then you buy the “Special offer” with Gems. 3750 Gems are needed. 1000 Gems cost 400 FIFA Points. So you have to buy 4000 Gems, that’s 1600 FIFA Points. As already written, there is only the offer of 2200 Points, which once again cost 19,99€.

At least not a full price title

There is a small ray of hope for casual gamers. Those who don’t aim to turn the rankings upside down will still get ahead. A free player here and there, a little luck with one or the other skill game, then you can already build a team with which you can have fun. But as always with FIFA, if you want to play at the top, you have to spend money and that shouldn’t be lost in gaming.
