Last night Guerrilla Games’ studio director Jan-Bart van Beek announced a new Horizon game! Horizon Call of The Mountain will be released exclusively for Playstation VR and in the first announcement teaser you can already see the first images. And all this about a month before the eagerly awaited release of Horizon Forbidden! We summarise the first information for you

What we know so far about Horizon Call of the Mountain

A brand new virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR2, was unveiled at this year’s Sony Interactive Entertainment press show, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES for short). But even more than that. In addition, there was a brief but exciting announcement about the Playstation VR2’s first major title. According to the announcement, Horizon Call of the Mountain will be a VR2 exclusive game and is the result of a collaboration between Guerrilla Games and Firesprite Studios.

Not too many details about Horizon: Call of the Mountain have been released, but it seems clear that the game will be set in the same universe as the two main Horizon titles. According to the developers, we will be dealing with a “completely new experience in the Horizon universe”, which was created from scratch for PlayStation VR2. Naturally, the new technology and its numerous possibilities will be used extensively. For example, the new PSVR2 controller. Unfortunately, there was no information about the plot, the setting, gameplay and the like about the game, nor was there a release date. We think that the development is still in the early stages and that we will get numerous glimpses of the VR world of Horizon: Call of the Mountain this year and probably next year as well.

However, one thing already seems certain. We will not experience Horizon: Call of the Mountain with the familiar protagonist Aloy. Instead, we will be able to control a completely new character and, according to the developers, “experience the world of Horizon in a whole new way.”

We’re already very excited to see what’s in store. Playstation seems to have clearly recognised the value of their Horizon brand and is looking to capitalise on it with the spin-off Horizon: Call of the Mountain to reach even more fans, now including virtual reality enthusiasts.
