Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2 or StarCraft II: Where has the most prize money been won over the last few years?

It has been no secret for many years that esport players can now make a living from their profession in certain disciplines without any problems. According to a YouTube video by See Data Visually, which refers to the site esportsearnings.com, a total of around one billion US dollars has already been paid out in esports to date. But who – after Dota 2 – is ahead in this respect?

Fortnite is in third place with almost 108 million US dollars – just behind Counter Strike: Global Offensive, which has paid out almost 118 million US dollars in prize money. Yet Fortnite only took off in esports in 2018. In these few years, however, the game caught up with most other disciplines in record time.

While one of today’s most popular esports disciplines, League of Legends, only entered esports in 2012, other titles were already busily churning out prize money. Shortly after its entry, however, LoL caught up mightily and took third place after 2013 with over 11 million US dollars. In 2021, the game from Riot Games is in fourth place with 84 million USD.

Not surprisingly, first place has always been occupied by Dota 2 since 2014. Valve’s title has generated such a large lead in this regard that no other discipline is likely to come close in the foreseeable future. Within three years, the MOBA fought its way from the very bottom to the top – with a proud 235 million US dollars in total prize money.

The remaining places in the top 10 are occupied by:

  • 5th place: StarCraft II (~35 million US dollars)
  • 6th place: PUBG (~34 million US dollars)
  • 7th place Overwatch (~27 million US dollars)
  • 8th place Arena of Valor (~$27 million)
  • 9th place: Hearthstone (~$25 million)
  • 10th place: Rainbow Six Siege (~19 million US dollars)
