Battlefield 2042: How to download the beta on Steam, Origin and Epic

We explain how you can download and install the BF 2042 Open Beta on the platform of your choice.

The Open Beta for the highly anticipated multiplayer shooter Battlefield 2042 has been running since the morning of 6 October 2021. Pre-orderers and EA Play subscribers are currently already allowed to play, all others can participate from 8 October 2021.

But how and when can you actually download the game now? We explain how the installation works on the three available PC platforms Origin, Steam and Epic Games Store.

Download Battlefield 2042 on Steam

If you want to play BF 2042 on Steam, downloading the open beta is pretty easy. EA is relying on the recently added playtest feature this time, which allows anyone to sign up for beta tests of upcoming games with just one click.

• Visit the Steam shop page for Battlefield 2042.

• Scroll down until you see the list of different editions.

• Click the Request Access button.

You should be able to access and download the beta directly. Note, however, that if you haven’t pre-ordered the game or linked your EA Play membership, you won’t be able to play until October 8, 2021.

Download Battlefield 2042 on Origin

If you pre-ordered Battlefield 2042 directly from EA’s own store Origin.com or have an EA Play subscription, you will need to use the Origin app to download the beta

• Search for Battlefield 2042 in the Origin App store or access the page in your browser.

• On the product page, under the pre-order button, you will find the option to Try First.

• Once you have clicked the button, the beta will be in your library and ready to install.

You should be able to access and download the beta directly. Note, however, that if you haven’t pre-ordered the game or linked your EA Play membership, you won’t be able to play until 8 October 2021.

Just like Steam: Downloading is possible immediately, but playing is only possible as an EA Play subscriber or with a pre-order. If you have neither, you will have to wait until 8 October.

Download Battlefield 2042 from the Epic Games Store

In the probably unlikely event that the Epic Games Store is your platform of choice, you can also download and play the beta here. The process is similar to Steam and Origin, only the buttons are found elsewhere:

• Visit the shop page of BF 2042 in the Epic Games Store.

• Find the section with the different editions.

• You should be able to see the entry for the open beta at the top – just press the Join Now button there.
  The download will work immediately, regardless of whether you are already eligible to play.
