Super Mario Bros. on the big screen – Nintendo announces film with Chris Pratt

Nintendo announces an animated Super Mario Bros. movie with voice roles from Hollywood stars Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Seht Rogen and more.

The Nintendo Direct on 24 September not only featured the latest announcements on games from the video game company, but also a surprise. Nintendo is planning an animated feature film about Super Mario with well-known actors as voice actors. From Chris Pratt to Anya Taylor-Joy to Jack Black, the casting includes some Hollywood greats.

The film is scheduled to open in cinemas in North America on 21 December 2022, with the flick premiering in other regions a few days later. The title is being produced under the direction of Chris Meledandri of animation studio Illumination and developer legend Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. Illumination is known for the film series “I – Simply Incorrigible” and “Pets”. Matthew Fogel, who previously worked on The LEGO Movie 2, is behind the script.

According to a press announcement by Nintendo, the speaking roles have been filled with actors:inside who are able to embody the unique characteristics of the corresponding character. Miyamoto confirmed in the release that production is going very well so far.
