Fans have been wanting to know more about the lore of the Overwatch universe for some time now. Blizzard is finally responding to this request by unveiling a short film series about the beginnings of Downfall.

The name Overwatch actually refers to a team of elite fighters recruited around the world to go to war against robots called Omnics. But how did this Omic crisis actually come about?

In a three-part anime short film series, Blizzard gets to the bottom of exactly this question. The first part can already be viewed now under the title GENISIS – PART ONE: DAWN.

Part two of the Overwatch prequel will be released on 13 July under the title GENISIS – Part Tow: Innocence. The grand finale, Part Three: Rebirth, will be released on 20 July  You can watch all the parts on the (official YouTube channel

The three films are shot in documentary style and tell retrospectively about the events of the Omic crisis. The people shown talk about how technology brought them prosperity and how a system that was actually perfect should not have been perfected further, which ultimately led to the outbreak of war.
