Do you recall Amazon’s MMO? Following an update that is a gift to many players, it is currently experiencing a resurgence.
We haven’t reported on New World at GlobalESportNews for quite some time. The Amazon MMO launched in 2021, accompanied by high hopes, expectations, and skepticism. But the wave of attention quickly subsided, our test gave it an unspectacular 78, and then things went pretty quiet around the game.
That doesn’t mean it was completely lifeless. In 2024, there was an attempt at a relaunch with the spin-off Aeternum and a release on consoles. But a really big boom only came now, in October 2025, after the start of Season 10. Why?
Free add-on + season start = win?
The basic version of New World has received one major expansion so far: Rise of the Angry Earth. Previously, this add-on cost $30, but now the developers have announced that it will be free – permanently.
If you are one of those who purchased the add-on via Steam in the last 30 days, you will receive a refund. Those who purchased it before that will not. Anyone who owns the base game simply needs to download Season 10, which will automatically include Rise of the Angry Earth.
Why is this generating so much new interest? The gift came unexpectedly, and many players are delighted with the promotion – you can read more about the reactions at Mein-MMO. The success can be measured via SteamDB (although consoles are not included, of course, but the trend is still crystal clear):
In the meantime, there have even been queues on the servers again:
The add-on includes many popular changes, such as a revamp of the first area, mounts, a new maximum level (from 65), new rarity levels for items, and so on.
Season 10 also brings major innovations, with new endgame activities, an even higher maximum level (70), an extensive overhaul of the equipment system, the new Nighthaven area – with vampires and werewolves, very fitting for Halloween.
Is anyone else still actively playing New World? Or is the new add-on gift, along with the big season update, tempting you to take another look? Depending on when you last played, the open world of the MMO has changed quite a bit. Especially in the previously rather meager endgame.
However, it remains to be seen whether this will be enough to build a larger player base in the long term.
