After 14 years, KurtJMac reaches the mysterious Far Lands in Minecraft. But the journey to the end of the world also served a good purpose.

The Far Lands in Minecraft are 12,550,821 blocks away from the spawn point. You could call it the end of the world, where a huge wall of obscure patterns awaits players who have traveled so far.

However, this place is almost impossible to reach by normal means, i.e. without cheats and mods. Even Minecraft creator Markus Peerson has already claimed that this journey is impossible. Now, YouTuber and streamer KurtJMac has refuted this statement: After 14 years, he has finally achieved his goal in his video series Far Lands or Burst. You can experience the moment at 3:43:30 in the following video. height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%;“>

And there were definitely obstacles he had to overcome. For example, the Far Lands haven’t existed for several years now. A few months after he started his journey, the end of the world was patched out.

In fact, it was just a bug that the automatic world generator created after a certain distance. KurtJMac had to continue playing on an outdated version to reach his goal.

(Almost) everything for a good cause

Over the years, KurtJMac has started raising money for good causes during his streams, including Child’s Play, Direct Relief, PAWS, and the Equal Justice Initiative. Over $490,000 has already been raised.

KurtJMac embarked on this mammoth task almost naively: in 2011, he uploaded his first commented Minecraft video, with a classic Let’s Play still planned at that time. It wasn’t until the eleventh episode that he decided to travel to the end of the world.

In an interview with PCGamesN  in 2021, he revealed that it was a spontaneous decision and that he had not fully grasped the enormous distance, time, and effort that would be required.

KurtJMac has now reached the Far Lands, but that doesn’t mean the successful series is coming to an end. On his own website, he confirms that this not a finale or farewell .

He wants to continue playing. There are many more distorted landscapes and curiosities to discover around the Far Lands and beyond, which should keep us busy for months… maybe even years!

After 14 years of his life and 852 episodes, this is of course no surprise – suddenly stopping after all the successes and good deeds would probably be out of the question for most people.
