A Minecraft player took a ten-year break and is now overwhelmed by a “creepy” opponent. Fortunately, the community is being helpful.

The adventure game Minecraft has achieved legendary status as the best-selling game of all time and has continued to evolve since its release. Although the basic features have remained the same, players from the early days might be a bit overwhelmed when they return after many years of absence.

The same thing happened to Reddit user and early Minecraft enthusiast MelonTheSprigatito, who, after a long break, encountered one of the many new enemies and is now wondering what the heck he’s looking at.

The community is there for you

In his post, MelonTheSprigatito writes: I haven’t played Minecraft in over a decade so I’m a little behind the times, but what the hell are these things? I’m scared.

Some Reddit users are initially confused and have no idea what is meant. For example, angrygreg: I thought he was afraid of flowers.

TheOneInATrenchcoat_ initially suspected that MelonTheSprigatito was alluding to the bed protruding from behind the wall. Only a closer look at the background provided clarity. There you can see a handful of dark figures.

The short answer: These are pillagers or, in German, plunderers. The shortest and most to-the-point explanation is probably that given by Ok_Skin_2895: Evil villagers.

Probably the most detailed answer is provided by Memegasm_:

They are marauders. (…) They will stare at you to see if you approach them. If you do, they will attack you. They carry crossbows and the one with the banner gives you a bad omen (…). Bad omens trigger an attack on you if you enter a village while afflicted by the status.

Raids include marauders, as well as other similar enemies such as minions (wielding iron axes), mages (magical spellcasters who spawn minions), witches, and ravagers (large, ugly freaks that they can ride). The [raiders] also have outposts in the world that contain raiders and occasionally enemies like allays or iron golems. (…)

Not all answers are serious: Some users also make fun of their answers. For example, Iron-Phoenix2307 writes that the people are tax collectors who just want to make sure that everything has been paid for correctly.

Blayden_Ridge is already getting ahead of himself and telling MelonTheSprigatito that he still has a “big storm” ahead of him and that much creepier things have been added in recent years.

A non-scary and, on the contrary, rather cute new feature is the upcoming addition of Happy Ghasts, which are to be added over the course of the year. So even though there is still a bit of waiting to be done, the community is already cheering.
