Minecraft 1.20: Here”s how you can already play features from the new big update

Announced a few days ago, now already playable: The new Minecraft Snapshot 22W42A lets you test many new features from Minecraft versions 1.19.3 and 1.20 immediately, before the update is finally released sometime in 2023.

We explain how the snapshot download works, so you can ride the new camels through the desert today.

As announced in a (blog post on the Minecraft website) most of the Minecraft 1.20 features that were showcased last week at Minecraft Live 2022 are now already playable in the new snapshot.

According to Mojang, this is officially a snapshot for version 1.19.3, but many of the major new features come from 1.20 and will only finally come into play with this version.

You can try out the following features right now by downloading the test version:

  • Camels can now be found and ridden.
  • Bamboo blocks can be used to build new items like the raft
  • Fancy hanging signs can be made
  • You can store up to six books in the functional bookshelves can be used to store up to six books
  • Bundles are a kind of backpack that expand your inventory

Of the features announced in the livestream, only the Sniffer is missing – you can also find all upcoming changes from Minecraft 1.20 in our (overview)


Both the preview of the Bedrock version and the snapshots of the Java version are completely free if Minecraft is already on your Microsoft account.
