According to some fans, developer Rockstar has hidden a tangible clue to the next GTA 6 trailer in an image. The moon is supposed to provide information about when new moving images of the open-world game will be released. Of course, at first this sounds like further proof that the GTA community likes to ignore the difference between causality and correlation. But… A waning three-quarter moon At the beginning of November, Rockstar announced a major update for GTA Online, which is scheduled for release in December. The following post on X:

The moon visible in the image led some fans to speculate whether the depicted moon phase could also be an impending announcement.
A new fan theory was born and spread via Reddit and X. The next crescent waning third moon visible in the picture will occur on November 22, 2024. What exactly will happen on this day is a matter of some disagreement. It is suspected that there will be a new trailer or at least an announcement of one, or even a release date for the game.
But it goes even further: To support the moon theory, the X-Account GTA 6 Countdown found further “connections” between GTA 6 and the Earth’s satellite.

The song from the first trailer, “Love is a Long Road” from Tom Petty’s album “Full Moon Fever”, is also said to be a reference to the moon In addition, there is a line from the song that translates as: “I would wait for the moon”.
At first glance, this all sounds very far-fetched, but a theory about a moon phase was already proven correct a year ago.
A correct moon theory
As Reddit user Fabrilzerlo remembers in a post , there was also a fan theory like this at the release date of the first trailer, which turned out to be correct.
At the time, an image in connection with GTA Online also prominently showed a moon. Its phase corresponded to December 1, 2023, the day the first trailer for GTA 6 was released.
It’s hard to say whether these are coincidences or actually small breadcrumbs from Rockstar for the community. Maybe we’ll get a little closer to the truth in two days, when something new about GTA 6 is actually shown or announced on November 22. Incidentally, the release window is set for fall 2025.
