London police appear to have caught the 17-year-old allegedly responsible for the data theft from Rockstar Games

The hacker behind the gigantic leak of GTA 6 has apparently been caught. London Police announced via Twitter that a 17-year-old in Oxfordshire has been caught on suspicion of hacking. Investigators from Britain”s National Cyber Crime Unit had helped track him down, according to the report.

According to journalist Matthew Keys (Reuters, ABC News), there is a connection between the suspect and hacking attacks on Rockstar Games and presumably also Uber Technologies. He expects an official statement from the police and FBI shortly, Keys said.

The suspect is allegedly the leader of the hacker group Lapsus$, which is blamed for attacks on several major companies, including Microsoft, Samsung, Nvidia and also recently the ride-hailing service Uber.

The leak had made headlines internationally and caused great excitement in the industry, bringing in-game scenes from GTA 6 to the public for the first time.

After the leaked scenes from GTA 6 were loudly criticised in social media, numerous developers in turn showed unfinished prototypes of their titles. The aim of the action: to make gamers realise that even the best games once looked incredibly ugly.
