Compared to Defect, even the world of Judge Dredd seems like a children’s birthday party: The hard-hitting and dark cyberpunk shooter’s new gameplay video shows a nightmarish future in which an authoritarian AI sends its ruthless elite police fighters against the gangs of the most brutal neighborhoods. Similar to the MaxTac unit in Cyberpunk 2077, these guys show up in the worst moments in the worst places!
Defect is a tactical team shooter in which up to four groups of four players each fight their way through dark alleys and corridors, with each squad pursuing its own objectives. Finding microchips, smuggling weapons, hacking enemies, carrying out assassinations, or arresting suspects – the mission objectives are diverse and treacherous.
Those who are not interested in PvP can play solo or in co-op against the AI if they wish, although this may reduce the level of excitement.
Most of the level environment in Defect is destructible, reminiscent of titles such as Rainbow Six Siege. Defect also offers no HUD; all information is displayed on the screens of the weapons and gadgets that players take with them into a match.
The tactical shooter is being developed by Empty Vessel, a team of veterans from Doom, CoD, and The Last of Us. Mick Gordon (Doom Eternal, Prey, Atomic Heart) is contributing the soundtrack.
Defect will be released for PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Store. A release date has not yet been set.
