“Unplayable” – Arc Raiders players have an extremely German complaint about traffic regulations

Arc Raiders usually scores points for its atmospheric environments. But now players on Reddit have noticed an absurd inconsistency.

Assets in games don’t always shine with realism or logic. Sometimes boxes are placed on stairs just to block our way up, and lanterns or signposts that are actually pointless guide us through level environments like glowing signs.

This is particularly noticeable in atmospheric and otherwise believable landscapes such as those in the extraction shooter Arc Raiders. One Reddit user shared his personal crisis of meaning due to a stop sign on the spaceport grounds in the game. It just doesn’t work at all. The community agrees with him, completely baffled, and jokingly calls for a boycott.

Stop sign becomes public enemy number 1

User TNT_Owl shares this post on Reddit. It shows an intersection at the spaceport with some notes drawn on it, as well as the location on the map in case you want to check it out for yourself. The markings clearly show that the stop sign placed there does not work for either of the two roads, which in turn raises questions about the traffic regulations in Arc Raiders:

This stop sign on spaceport is backwards 🚧

The post has so far collected an impressive 2078 upvotes and over 200 comments. In these, Arc Raiders players demonstrate their sense of humor and express their shock. “Unplayable,” reads one of the first responses from SamAmes26 says. Other users agree and demand that Embark immediately put all updates on hold until the problem is fixed.

The (tongue-in-cheek) frustration is understandable, because who is supposed to stop here? Those turning at the fork? The position of the stop sign suggests that it is intended for everyone turning right from the road onto the main road as seen from our perspective, but as correctly pointed out on Reddit, it is the wrong way round.

Mario Kart instead of traffic regulations

Incidentally, this can even be measured against very specific traffic rules, because Arc Raiders is not set in a fantasy world with its own rules, at least not entirely. The game world is based on a post-apocalyptic version of Italy, which is also evident in the signs, lettering, and buildings in the open world.

Our colleagues at PC Gamer have specifically selected the relevant paragraph from the Regolamento di Esecuzione e di Attuazione del Nuovo Codice della Strada , which stipulates that stop signs must have horizontal lines and the word Stop written on the ground beneath them on all affected roads.

In addition, if there is a pedestrian crossing nearby, this must be indicated at least five meters in advance. Regardless of the actual position of the stop sign, the surroundings are also completely wrong, as a crosswalk is clearly visible in the screenshot.

The amused Reddit users also allude to this. Rtard25 essentially said that Italian driving is known to be so chaotic that even Mario Kart is based on it. Another comment attempts a more realistic explanation. This is what user rogermose writes:

This is very common in Italy. In many places (sidewalk width, horizontal and vertical signs, etc.), they are not very precise about distances. I also suspect that the sign has slowly shifted over the years (due to wind, electrical storms, flying bots, and so on).

Either way, the community is having a lot of fun with the discovery. Have you ever noticed something in a game that turned out to be complete nonsense the more you thought about it? Let us know in the comments!
