It’s been a long time since South Park sparked such controversy. The long-running satirical show has really taken US President Trump to task.

South Park has long been considered one of the most provocative animated series of all time. However, the satirical show about Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny hadn’t caused much of a stir for quite some time—until now.

On July 24, the first episode of the now 27th season was broadcast, entitled Sermon on the Mount. This episode packs a punch, as creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone take a fierce shot at the current US president, Donald Trump.
The portrayal is so vulgar that the White House even fired back in a statement.

In the past, instead of a satirical version of Donald Trump, South Park featured former elementary school teacher Mr. Garrison as an alternative version of the president. In the new season, South Park no longer holds back and shows Trump as a cartoon character with his real face. Similar to how former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was portrayed in the past.

The comparison with South Park’s version of the dictator is obvious, because the show gives Trump an almost identical role. This time it’s Donald Trump who jumps into bed with Satan. But that’s not all. Donald Trump is portrayed in a less than flattering light:

  • It is mentioned several times that Donald Trump is supposed to have a tiny penis.
  • Throughout the episode, Trump is loud, selfish, and megalomaniacal.
  • At the slightest sign of opposition, Trump threatens to sue everything and everyone.
  • Trump also threatens to bomb Canada and confuses Iran with Iraq.
  • The impact of Trump on society is also portrayed, resulting in people becoming increasingly racist and hateful – much to the dilemma of Cartman, who no longer stands out.

Incidentally, South Park also alludes to various controversies surrounding Donald Trump in the episode. At one point, Satan asks his bed partner whether his name is really in the Epstein files and why he downplays the matter every time.

This is how the White House reacted

This portrayal of the president has apparently caused discontent in the White House. Trump himself has not yet commented personally on the episode. However, White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said on Thursday in a statement on Thursday that South Park has not been relevant for 20 years. She said:

Just like the creators of South Park, the left has no authentic or original content, which is why their popularity continues to reach record lows. This show has not been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt to get attention. President Trump has delivered more promises in just six months than any other president in the history of our country – and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump’s winning streak.”

There’s more to it than meets the eye

But that’s not all. The fact that South Park is causing such a stir with this episode right now is adding fuel to the fire of an ongoing debate surrounding Donald Trump and the Paramount media group.

At the end of last year, the US president sued the company over an interview broadcast on CBS, a television station owned by Paramount. However, although many believed the company had a good chance of winning the case, the lawsuit was settled out of court. Paramount paid the US president $16 million.

It is believed that Paramount gave in because the company was hoping for government approval for its merger with Skydance Media. Shortly afterwards, it was also announced that CBS would be canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in May 2026. Colbert is considered a fierce critic of the president and also criticized the agreement with Paramount. Officially, the show is being canceled for purely financial reasons. Trump celebrated Colbert’s “firing” on social media.

Shortly before the new South Park episode aired, it was announced that Paramount had acquired the exclusive streaming rights to the animated series for a whopping $1.5 billion. No one could have seen this coming: South Park is now taking direct shots at Trump again, leaving Paramount with some serious explaining to do.

Especially since the episode itself doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to Paramount and the cancellation of The Late Show.
