Will fans soon see the mastermind behind Fallout 3 and 4 in the Amazon show? Howard now makes it clear: No, that won’t happen.
He is a cult figure for Bethesda fans: Todd Howard. The game designer has led the development of all the studio’s titles since The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Starfield – Howard and his team have created many hits.
But as we all know, there are two sides to every coin: Todd Howard has also earned himself a rather unflattering reputation over the years for talking big about new Bethesda games without the titles subsequently living up to the high expectations. As a result, he has already had to endure a fair amount of criticism.
But the fact is: A cameo appearance by Todd Howard in Amazon’s Fallout series would be obvious. There is a reason why this has not happened yet: Howard himself is not interested in doing so.
Doesn’t want to distract anyone
In interview with IGN the veteran developer makes it clear that his lack of cameo appearances is certainly not due to a lack of offers. On the contrary:
They offered me a whole bunch [of cameos], even for season 1. I was supposed to sit in that room at Vault-Tec where they talk about all the experiments and other things.

Todd Howard explains why this didn’t happen as follows:
I’ve turned down all offers so far. I don’t want to distract [the audience]. They would shout, “Oh, there’s Todd!”
So Todd Howard is unlikely to be keen on appearing on screen often after his career ends.
Speaking of the end of his career: It is still unclear when Howard will retire and explore Blackreach for the seventeenth time without any stress. However, he is now in his mid-50s and is currently working with his team on The Elder Scrolls 6, which will be released sometime between 2039 and 2041. By then, Howard will be a proud 70 and will have earned his retirement!
