Fallout: New Vegas 2 is supposedly coming, as is a remake of Fallout 3. We rank whether you should trust the new rumors.
Apparently, Bethesda is planning to greatly expand the popular post-apocalypse series Fallout. According to a credible insider report, Bethesda Game Studios and its partner companies have several Fallout titles in various stages of development alongside The Elder Scrolls 6.
The report confirms the recent rumors about a remaster of Fallout 3, but also a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas and the already confirmed Fallout 5 are said to be in the works.
What was revealed and by whom?
The information comes from journalist Jordan Middler, who spoke about the future of the Fallout series (from minute 27) in the podcast “Friends Per Second” among other things. Middler, who was born in Scotland, works for the Video Games Chronicle website and previously worked for the British BBC, among others. He is considered trustworthy and serious, but does not name any sources for his assessments.
In the podcast, Middler reveals that “multiple” projects from the Fallout universe are in various stages of development. This is a clear sign that Xbox, as the parent company of Bethesda, is “betting hard on Fallout for the future”.
The journalist made his comments in the context of the recent wave of layoffs at Microsoft, which also affected other projects. Despite this internal restructuring and the associated uncertainty Fallout appears to be a clear priority for Microsoft. Middler emphasized, “Fallout is the big thing.”.
He added that there are “multiple Fallout projects in development, including, as far as I know, the one you all want” – a clear reference to New Vegas 2. However, he qualified that work was not yet far enough along to say “you’ll be playing that game anytime soon”.
The impatience of the fan community is understandable. Apart from regular updates for Fallout 76, there have been no new single-player experiences in the main series for a long time. The wishes range from a remaster of Fallout 3 to a much-anticipated Fallout: New Vegas 2 and Fallout 5.
Fallout 3 Remastered and the hope for New Vegas 2
One of the projects that Jordan Middler specifically mentioned is a remaster of Fallout 3. This is said to be a joint effort between Bethesda and Virtuous the studio also responsible for the remaster of Oblivion .
However, the most coveted project by fans for over a decade is undoubtedly Fallout: New Vegas 2, or at least a remaster of the original. With the Microsoft takeover of Bethesda and Obsidian – the studio behind the acclaimed New Vegas – a new collaboration seems to be within the realms of possibility, according to journalist Jordan Middler.
However, such a collaboration would depend on the studios’ mutual interest. The sheer enthusiasm for New Vegas, which is known for its complex decisions and in-depth story, is a strong argument for a sequel or new edition. What’s more, Amazon’s Fallout series is set in the eponymous gambling town of New Vegas for the first time in season 2.
The prospect of several new Fallout experiences is a real ray of hope for the “rabid and hungry” fan base. Middler joked at the end of his comments in the podcast: “Anyway, New Vegas 2, coming soon”.
It remains to be seen how quickly and in what form these alleged projects will see the light of day. In this context, Jordan Middler also points out the high risks associated with major game developments and the internal challenges at Microsoft.
