The open beta of WW3 is attracting a lot of interest, but the servers are going down the tubes. On Steam, this creates a bad image.
World War 3 is really having a hard time. After a long wait, the Open Beta was launched on 29 September before the Free2Play release. At one go, almost 12,000 players wanted to hop into the multiplayer shooter at the same time but this caused major problems for developer The Farm 51.
Many players are not getting on the servers: Some are being greeted with Error 40302 others are experiencing a timeout and errors initialising World War 3”s interface.The problems have now persisted for six days.
Frustrated fans are giving the developers (Steam) the receipt. There, the shooter slips into deep red territory with only 17 percent approval in recent reviews. This reads extremely negatively
The Farm 51 communicated a lot on Twitter in the last few days. It was all about efforts to fix existing bugs. Currently they are helping out by setting up a queue for the servers and trying to get the groaning servers running properly.
The game servers will be unavailable today for maintenance at 16:00 CEST.

Problems: Better now than at full release
World War 3 is still in the open testing phase, which is intended as a kind of dress rehearsal to identify and fix bugs before the game is properly released. So it”s good that the technical difficulties are occurring now and not at the full release.
But that doesn”t stop over 9,000 players from criticising the shooter into nirvana on Steam in the last 30 days. The comments marked as most helpful by other users mostly refer to the server problems.
In addition, many players express dissatisfaction with the separate launcher, which only offers low download rates at peak times. Here, critics raise the question why The Farm 51 does not make the game available directly via Steam.
Other players defend the developers and deny the negative reviews justification, as they only focus on the server problems without considering the game itself.
At least one thing is positive: World War 3 seems to be attracting a lot of interest in the current shooter hole between Battlefield 2042 and CoD Modern Warfare 2.
For an indie shooter, 12,000 concurrent active users would at least be a solid entry point into the market. Now we just have to hope that The Farm 51 gets a grip on the problems before the players go elsewhere.
