Silksong will be playable for the first time at gamescom 2025 – the most requested Steam game is finally approaching its long-awaited launch with a huge demo.
Hold on tight and take a deep breath: The seemingly endless wait is almost over – at least for a lucky group of pilgrims making their way to Cologne. Probably the most eagerly awaited and most requested game on Steam, Hollow Knight: Silksong, will be playable at gamescom 2025.
For years, fans of the indie hit had to wait for concrete news: Apart from vague hints and the occasional delay, developer Team Cherry remained silent while the community clung to every scrap of information. But the silence is now over.
Silksong playable for the first time
The redeeming news came as part of the big announcements from Microsoft for this year’s Cologne trade fair. Xbox will once again have a massive booth at gamescom and has officially confirmed that, in addition to some of its in-house heavyweights, a demo of Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available for you to try out. This ends an unprecedented dry spell for fans who have been waiting for new impressions since the announcement in 2019.
Exactly what to expect in the demo is not yet known. Will it be a section created especially for the show, or a first glimpse of the beginning of the finished game? That remains to be seen. All confirmed games for gamescom 2025 can be found in our big overview.
But the mere fact that Team Cherry and Microsoft are taking this step is a good sign that development is well underway and that those responsible are confident enough to present their work to the public. So you can look forward to testing Hornet’s acrobatic skills in the beautiful and dangerous lands of Pharloom for yourself.
The wait is almost over
For years, Silksong has dominated the Steam wish lists and has achieved almost mythical status. Every indie presentation, no matter how small, and every major gaming show was followed by the community with the hope of finally hearing some new information. Most of the time, these hopes were dashed, which only fueled the game’s cult status.
The playable demo at gamescom is likely to fuel speculation about an imminent release. Such trade fair versions are often the last major public test run before a game enters the final phase before release.
Even though Team Cherry is known for not rushing things, one thing is now certain: Silksong is set to be released in the fourth quarter of 2025 – just in time for the Christmas shopping season. And if the demo at the trade fair is as well received as many expect, there should be little standing in the way of the long-awaited release.
