Netflix is currently working on a new Witcher movie – with Doug Cockle replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt von Riva. But the release of Sirens of the Deep is now delayed.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep has a new release date. Originally scheduled for late 2024, the animated film will now not start until February 11, 2025 on Netflix. The streaming service officially announced this as part of its in-house Geeked Week.

New adventure, old witcher

And no, Sirens of the Deep does not feature Henry Cavill as Geralt, who left the role with season 3. Instead, Doug Cockle lends his voice to the grumpy sorcerer, whom fans will of course know as the voice actor for the Witcher games by CD Projekt Red.

XWOAnya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Joey Batey (Rittersporn) actually return in their roles from the Netflix series. Christina Wren can be heard in the role of the bard Essi Daven. Studio MIR is responsible for the production, which has already created the previous Witcher animated film Nightmare of the Wolf.

Sirens of the Deep is based on the short story A Small Sacrifice from the collection The Sword of Destiny by author Andrzej Sapkowski. The plot takes place between season 1, episode 5 and the second season of the Netflix series.

This is what it’s about: Because at this point, Geralt is still struggling with his (first) breakup with Yennefer and is traveling the country with his buddy Rittersporn. Their paths cross with the bard Essi and the three begin to discuss and philosophize about the love dispute between a prince and a mermaid.

Fittingly, Netflix has released a new clip for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep:

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep starts on February 11, 2025 on Netflix. Sometime in the coming year, season 4 of The Witcher should follow, but it does not yet have an official release date. Liam Hemsworth will then follow in Henry Cavill’s footsteps, while the Netflix series will end with Season 5.

How do you like the first scenes from Sirens of the Deep? Are you looking forward to the new Witcher animations and the return of Doug Cockle as Geralt of Rivia? Let us know in the comments!
