The leaks and rumors surrounding an upcoming Witcher 3 expansion continue unabated. Polish journalists now claim to have learned that the DLC may take us to the desert region of Serrikania.
In 2025, the milestone role-playing game The Witcher 3 celebrated its 10th anniversary, and at that time, the first rumors began to surface that the story of Geralt the Witcher might not be as complete as we had previously thought.
During a podcast, Polish journalist Borys Nieśpielak revealed that studio Fool’s Theory is set to release another DLC on behalf of CD Projekt eleven years after the release of Witcher 3.
And now the rumors are becoming more and more concrete: Just before Christmas, a Polish financial analyst reported that the expansion is set to be released in May 2026 and will cost around $30.
Our Polish colleagues at IGN now claim to have learned another exciting detail about this third expansion, which has not yet been officially confirmed: According to them, CD Projekt plans (or had planned) to send Geralt to a completely new area.
The Witcher in the style of Dune
We are talking about the mysterious land of Serrikania, located far to the southeast of the Witcher continent. It is considered the home of basilicas and is said to be characterized by deserts as well as tropical rainforests. Attentive readers of the books will know that this is also where the two companions of Knight Borch of the Three Jackdaws come from. However, Serrikania has not appeared in the games so far.
But that may soon change, because IGN reports that the Witcher developers have been considering using Serrikania as a location in the games for years. Although the information is several years old, according to the report, it comes from a credible source.
In the Polish report states:
At the time, there were signs that the team was fascinated by a setting very different from the icy north [the setting of The Witcher 4]. There were many indications that the developers were very interested in establishing Serrikania as the setting.
At the time, this seemed like a logical step. After the muddy, Slavic-inspired Velen and the fairytale-like, colorful Toussaint, players needed something completely different. Desert, sun, exotic fauna, and a completely different culture—that would be The Witcher in the style of Dune.
In addition, there were already several references to the Serrian witcher school of the Manticore in the last official DLC, Blood and Wine. And the antagonist of the second part, Letho of Guleta, also hints that he wants to hide in Serrikania if you let him live. So there are definitely a few story threads that could be picked up in a third expansion.
What’s the downside?
However, according to IGN’s own statement, several years have passed since the team first obtained this information.& nbsp;Meanwhile, developer CD Projekt’s plans may have changed somewhat. One argument against a Serrikania setting is that The Witcher 4 is confirmed to take place in the northern kingdom of Kovir; the developers have already officially confirmed this in recent months.
For a third Witcher 3 DLC, it would therefore make sense to build a bridge to the upcoming fourth part and also set it in the north. For example, the expansion could show Geralt handing over the witcher sword to Ciri and then finally retiring with the lady of his heart (any answers other than Yennefer are wrong!).
However, none of this information is confirmed. Please note that this is pure speculation until CD Projekt officially announces the expansion.
