AI is already transforming the world of work. But according to the Nvidia CEO, there is hope.
AI has been one of the most important topics for some time now and is considered by many observers to be as transformative as the invention of the internet. For anyone afraid of being replaced by AI, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has good news and bad news.
Nvidia CEO talks about AI
Nvidia is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom. The US tech company has doubled its revenue several times in recent years due to high demand for graphics chips and just set a stock market record.
AI is already having a major impact on the lives of many people and on the way we work. The automation of processes through AI is intended to increase production, but this also leads to people fearing for their jobs.
As part of the Nvidia GTC, Shira Lazar, an influencer and founder of What’s Trending, interviewed Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
She asked him what he would say to people who are afraid of losing their jobs to AI.
Huang replied:
You won’t lose your jobs to AI. You will lose your jobs to someone who uses AI.
I finally met @nvidia Founder and CEO Jensen Huang at #NVIDIAGTC and got to ask him how AI will impact Hollywood, entertainment, and the creator economy. Plus, what he’d say to people afraid of losing their jobs. What do you think of his take? pic.twitter.com/tqa2kSulNs

The Nvidia CEO thus partially confirms the fears of many people, but does not fuel the assumption that AI will replace real people in the workplace.
Of course, there is a certain calculation behind such statements by the Nvidia CEO: Nvidia is currently the biggest beneficiary of the AI boom. In recent weeks in particular, there has been increasing discussion in the media about whether the boom is a financial bubble.
Huang has a strong vested interest in emphasizing the importance of AI in people’s everyday working lives. Nevertheless, Amazon laid off 14,000 employees just a few days ago, explicitly citing AI as one of the reasons. While some of the lost jobs will be filled by people who use AI, many others will be eliminated without replacement.
Huang’s simultaneous emphasis on the relevance of AI and the elimination of thousands of jobs at Amazon illustrate the disruptive shift currently taking place in the labor market.
