Google wants to make the official YouTube app available for the Nintendo Switch 2 soon.
By mid-June, it was already clear that Nintendo had achieved a resounding success with the release of the Switch 2. With more than three million consoles sold, Nintendo can even claim to have had the most successful console launch of all time.
However, it also quickly became apparent that Nintendo still has some areas to improve. For example, there are still no apps for services such as YouTube on the Switch 2.
That is now set to change. Team YouTube, the official YouTube account on X, has confirmed that the YouTube app for the Switch will be available soon.
Hello @YouTube and @NintendoFrance can you make an update so that YouTube is compatible with the Switch 2 because YouTube is life no matter who we are and it’s nice to have YouTube on the Switch so please do it as soon as possible for the population with a Switch 2. Hello! YouTube is not yet available on Nintendo Switch 2, but we hope to offer it soon.
The message confirms that YouTube wants to offer its own app for the Switch. However, the message does not reveal what is currently preventing this from happening.
The same account had already confirmed in July of this year that YouTube would be working with Nintendo to offer the official app on the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
In August 2025, YouTube confirmed that new Switch 2 users would not be able to access the YouTube app in the Nintendo eShop. Users migrating from the first Switch to the Switch 2 would see the YouTube icon, but would receive a message upon launch stating that YouTube was currently unavailable.
YouTube will be temporarily unavailable on the Nintendo Switch 2. New users will not see YouTube in the Nintendo eShop and therefore will not be able to download it. Users who transfer their Switch 1 games/apps to their Switch 2 devices will see the YouTube app icon, but will receive a “Currently unavailable” message when opening the app. Nintendo Switch 2 users who want to watch YouTube via the console can currently only do so using workarounds. YouTube can be accessed via the internal browser. The solution is complicated and functionality on the platform is limited. Now we want to hear your opinion. Are there other apps besides YouTube that you would like to see on the Switch 2? Feel free to leave us a comment.
