Our FYNG show featured new locations from the upcoming RPG. Dani also shared some exciting details until he was dragged off stage.
Owlcat Games showed us new scenes from their upcoming sci-fi role-playing game The Expanse: Osiris Reborn at the FYNG show at gamescom. Of course, none other than Dani~ was on our stage to share lots of exciting details.
We’d rather not mention that he had to be gently but firmly escorted from the podium at the end and continued to shout out Expanse facts as he was leaving. Oh, we’ve done it now. Well, it’s all just a joke!
No joke, though: you get a twin in the role-playing game. What’s that all about? Let’s puzzle over it together. Since we don’t know anything about the story, we won’t give any spoiler warnings here, but we’ll share our ideas with you – some of them may actually turn out to be true in the end. It’s up to you to decide if you want to read them now!
Our twin: friend, foe, or something else?
In the game, which is based on the series but tells a new story, we create our own main character. We can choose from different backgrounds (Belter, Martian, or Earthling) and physical characteristics. Once we’ve chosen, we also create a twin named J, who accompanies us in the game as a crew member. Their appearance is adapted to the character we’ve created.
We don’t yet know what role our dear sibling will play in the story – but there are many possibilities. Dani~ puts forward the daring theory that he or she could secretly be evil… He hasn’t revealed why he sees this possibility, but his instincts are usually very keen. Or maybe we’re doing our doppelganger an injustice. But ever since Baldur’s Gate 3, we’ve been harboring a healthy distrust of friendly faces.
How fitting that our ship in Osiris Reborn is called “Gemini”! So there’s definitely some central story concept behind it, otherwise the developers wouldn’t have incorporated the theme so prominently. For better or worse, we’ll find out when it’s released. A date has not yet been set.
The sibling concept reminds us — like so much else about The Expanse: Osiris Reborn — of Mass Effect. Andromeda also created a twin for us, and a dad to boot, both of whom looked like our own main character. Will Owlcat try to break our hearts with the in-game family too?
Our big FYNG Show continues, even though the stream with over 40 games is already over. We’ll be at gamescom until Sunday, August 24, conducting interviews, playing demos, and much more. So check back regularly at GlobalESportNews to make sure you don’t miss any exciting stories!
