Scary, bloody and in tremendous image quality – this is how The Callisto Protocol presents itself in a new performance video. Experience for yourself how the boundaries between film and video game blur in this massive title.

The Callisto Protocol seems to have cinematic gameplay in store for us. This is partly due to the Unreal Engine 4.27 used for the development. On the one hand, this version allows the developers to use various graphical tricks such asRay Tracing  to give you a realistic gameplay feeling. The gory bits in particular make for a gore-fest for the eye, so losing is fun too, as technical director Mark James explains in a (interview

On the other hand, Unreal Engine 4 is one of the most widely used engines, which made hiring new staff drastically easier. As a result, Striking Distance Studios was able to grow from 50 to around 200 employees within the three-year development period.

As The Callisto Protocol is released for both current- and last-gen consoles, the different loading times of the console generations pose a challenge above all. While the fast SSDs of the PS5 and Xbox Series promise smooth gameplay that enables this image violence, the slower HDDs of the PS4 and Xbox One still have to be taken into account. However, according to Mark James, this balancing act seems to have been achieved.

A new enemy in The Callisto Protocol

In addition, CEO and founder of Striking Distance Studios Glen Schofield revealed a new enemy class over the weekend. The Blind  is a subspecies of biophage that has adapted to life in darkness. So make sure you always have a torch handy.

The Callisto Protocol is scheduled for release on December 2 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
