The new Devil’s Trail event is set to bring new momentum with some radical changes.
Hunt Showdown 1896 is already one of the most exciting extraction shooters on the market. With regular events, Crytek keeps shaking up the established formula – now, with Devil’s Trail, another season is coming that could fundamentally influence the gameplay!
Exploration & clue hunting
The Hunt developers gave us an exclusive preview that they were working on new scouting mechanics. Surprise: now they’re here! Devil’s Trail is all about exploration and tracking, which is why supply and extraction points are now hidden on the map.
To uncover them, you must visit them yourself or:
- Find one of the new Scout Towers and interact with a map there.
- Banish a boss or pick up a Bounty Token from a boss you’ve already defeated.
- Burn a “The Chariot” tarot card (which swaps the active extraction points).
Important locations on the map must now be scouted through specific actions, which changes the match dynamics.

Many new mechanics
In addition, new gameplay elements are designed to focus on tracking down opponents. These include:
- New Tarot Card (The High Priestess): Reveals the direction of the next enemy Hunter for 30 seconds.
- New Tarot Card (The Pathfinder): Marks all previously used Boss Clues on the entire map for a limited time.
- New Trait (All Ears): In Darksight, you can locate enemy Hunters more easily (Hunter sounds amplified, ambient sounds muted).
- New Location (Scout Tower): Each mission now contains two randomly placed towers – they hold maps, tarot cards, and traits.
- New Location (Burned Convoy): New supply point (hidden) with rare loot items, including the All Ears trait. This is what the location looks like:

In addition, player actions now leave more visible traces in the open world, which can be read by experienced hunters. Killed animals leave behind carcasses, used ammunition and first aid kits, and doors are left ajar; the remains of exploded barrels are left lying around. So if you keep your eyes and ears open, you can track enemies more easily based on their activities.
Devil’s Trail will change a lot
All in all, the new combination of clue hunting and hidden locations could make for exciting scavenger hunts and further enhance one of Hunt’s greatest strengths: deep immersion in the game world with minimal reliance on icons, HUD, and interfaces.
As usual from previous events, the point system with oath tokens is back. This time, Devil’s Trail’s Battle Pass and in-game shop have five new Hunters in store, most of whom you can already catch a glimpse of in the event trailer:
Also exciting: hidden among the Grunts is now a new fiery enemy called Firebreather. It is the first zombie in the game with a ranged attack that spits flames. You can spot it at the end of the trailer above.
Devil’s Trail also comes with Update 2.7, which brings additional features and improvements to the game. The event runs from March 18 to June 10, 2026.
The trailer also hints that the Hellborn boss will soon find its way from Mammon’s Gulch to the other maps. In an interview with GameStar, Crytek’s Gameplay Director Dennis Schwarz already hinted: “The Inferno fits well with the Hellborn theme…”
It looks like the Hunt maps will soon be ablaze again, just like they were in 2022!
