The series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the role-playing game Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 could swap main characters, and it probably wouldn’t be noticed for quite some time.

Did Heinrich von Skalitz accidentally stumble into the world of Game of Thrones? That’s the impression some fans of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are getting as they watch HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The two main characters in the game and the series are indeed strikingly similar—and not just in appearance.

The two fandoms, which naturally already have some overlap, are enthusiastically shaking hands and finding more and more parallels. We discreetly mingled with the celebrating crowd.

What makes Dunk and Heinrich so similar?

A young man with little education but strong hands and a heart full of honor, who accidentally gets caught up in politically sensitive events and suddenly finds himself in an important role. He suddenly has to move in noble circles, completely surpassing himself in the process and ultimately gaining considerable prestige.

Dunk and Heinrich both dream of a glorious knight’s life, even if their everyday lives initially bear little resemblance to it. They are both surprisingly talented with swords, as reliable as the sunrise, a bit grumpy, suspiciously quick to get dirty, permanently hungry, and prone to stepping on the toes of the rich and powerful (in Dunk’s case, quite literally), and both encounter a blond, arrogant bastard of noble birth who quickly targets them.

Well, in Heinrich’s case, said bastard turns out to be a loyal comrade and later best friend (or, optionally, the love of his life), which is less than can be said for Dunk and Aerion Targaryen.

And Heinrich doesn’t have an Egg at his side either. But he would definitely look after a young squire with just as much eye-rolling and self-sacrifice as Sir Duncan does for his bald shadow.

No wonder many fans imagine that Heinrich and Dunk would definitely have become friends if they had met. Food would have been the stable foundation of a blossoming friendship:

Or they would understand each other perfectly because they simply cannot stand by and watch when weaker people are suffering. Even if it puts their own lives at risk. As this fan edit shows:

Maybe Heinrich could teach Dunk a little blacksmithing, and Dunk could entertain him with wild stories of dragons and wizards, which are probably even true in his world. By the time the hearty tavern celebration rolls around in the evening, the two would be soul mates.

So if you want to feel like Dunk in a game, you can confidently pick up Kingdom Come: Deliverance and/or its sequel. Choose the appropriate hairstyle and role-play as a warm-hearted but somewhat simple-minded spirit.

And if, after hundreds of hours of traveling through Bohemia, you’re looking for a series with a similar mood for a change, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the perfect choice.
