Will there be a Valve console? The rumors speak the same language, but unfortunately a Steam Deck developer speaks another.

Steam Deck users can continue to dream: rumors say that Valve is working on a console based on the RDNA 4 hardware. Now Pierre-Loup Griffais, a senior Steam Deck developer, has spoken out.

There will be no competitor to PS5 and Xbox

The reason for the rumors was the collaboration with AMD. However, nothing came of it. It was apparently just a test. In a post on the social media platform bluesky, Steam Deck developer Pierre-Loup Griffais cleared up the rumors.

He said:

Thank you… we tested Mesa Vulkan on every AMD architecture since Vega before the release because they kindly provided us with hardware, so there’s nothing useful to read there.

This also made the prediction by Spanish tech leaker “eXtas1s” redundant.

According to eXtas1s, it was clear that Valve was indeed working on a “real” console and that it was intended to compete with the current generation around the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox Series X|S. It seems that the tech leaker was wrong this time.
