A month full of new releases – and a secret star
August kicks off for Xbox Game Pass subscribers with a jam-packed list of games. Microsoft has unveiled the first batch of fresh titles – and this time there really is something for everyone: from snowy slopes to gigantic combat robots. But the spotlight is on a game that fans have been celebrating since its release in 2023 – Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
Several exciting titles will be added to the library starting August 6: Rain World, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders, MechWarrior 5: Clans, and Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap. All are available for Xbox Series X/S, and many are also available via the cloud and PC. If you use Game Pass Standard, you can also get started right away.
And that was just the beginning. Because just one day later, on August 7, the big moment arrives: Assassin’s Creed Mirage takes the stage – for console, PC, and cloud, but exclusively on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Mirage: Back to the roots – with modern twists
When the title was released in 2023, many described it as a welcome change in a series that had recently become increasingly large and sprawling. Instead of sheer mass, Ubisoft Bordeaux is returning to what once made the series great: stealth, precise missions, and a more compact scope.
Our partner portal rated the game four out of five stars at the time, praising its consistent gameplay in particular: “Mirage doesn’t get tiresome, offers variety and just feels good to play.” So if you’ve been longing for an Assassin’s Creed experience without endless collection tasks, now’s your chance.
But the month doesn’t end there: on August 12, Aliens: Fireteam Elite arrives in the subscription – cooperative sci-fi action for PC, console, and cloud. On August 14, 9 Kings follows as a strategic new addition to the PC game preview.
At the same time, however, it’s also time to say goodbye, as some older games are disappearing from the catalog.
Conclusion: August delivers a colorful mix in Xbox Game Pass, but for many, it will probably only be a matter of time before they dive into Baghdad and make Assassin’s Creed Mirage their personal highlight.
