Shadows, blades, and the return of a legend

Team Ninjahas done it again: At Sony’s latest State of Play, the studio surprisingly presented the third installment of its acclaimedaction RPG series.Nioh 3 promises nothing less than a fresh start in an old guise – and is already whetting fans’ appetites with a limited-time demo on PlayStation Store, available until June 18, 2025.

Unlike its predecessors, the game world opens up significantly for the first time – with mysterious villages, enchanted ruins, and supernatural beings from Japanese mythology. Particularly challenging: the newendgame area “The Crucible”, a dangerous test for experienced players that promises exclusive rewards. Visually, the style remains rough and edgy – a conscious decision to credibly blend historical Japan with fantasy elements.

Those who fight inNioh 3 will no longer do so with just a katana and courage: two new fighting styles shape the gameplay. The classic samurai style features precise melee techniques, while the agile ninja style focuses on evasive maneuvers, ranged weapons, and speed. The seamless transition between the two opens up tactical freedom that can be crucial in dicey boss fights.

Nioh 3 with multiplayer, soulslike depth, and player feedback

Whatmakes Nioh 3particularly exciting for fans of the genre becomes apparent at second glance. TheSoulslike rootsremain intact, but are expanded with new online features. Those who fight their way through particularly difficult sections can use the “Summon Visitor” feature to call other warriors into battle. Or they can roam the open world together in the cooperative “Expeditions” mode.

In addition, there is now an extensive character editor for the first time, which allows players to design their own heroes. Team Ninja is actively encouraging participation, as feedback on the demo will be actively collected and incorporated into the fine-tuning process ahead of the 2026 release. This format has already led to significantly improved game mechanics in previous installments.

Particularly noteworthy: despite all the new features, Nioh 3remains true to its roots. Challenge, timing, and learning curve are at the heart of the game – and that’s exactly what makes it so appealing to veterans and newcomers alike So anyone who takes to the battlefield in 2026 can look forward to a soulslike experience that dares to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation.
