Ubisoft still has big plans for Shadows until the end of the year! The new roadmap reveals major gameplay changes and a release for the Switch 2.

Just because the new DLC brought the story of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows to a close in September, the developers are far from done with the action-adventure game, which is designed for longevity. To prove it, a completely new roadmap has now been unveiled.

It lists all the major new features that are still to come in the next few months. More content is planned until November, including a few major new features. First and foremost is the parkour update, which gives you even more freedom when climbing, jumping, and swinging.

But that’s not all, of course. The roadmap graphic gives you a quick overview of all the planned new features until the end of the year:

More freedom when climbing

A major update for Shadows will be released on October 28, which will revamp parkour for the second time. The feature, which had been quite rudimentary up to that point, was already overhauled in May with update 1.0.5.

But the next update removes even more gameplay restrictions. From that moment on, anyone who wants to can activate Advanced Parkour in the options. This means that Shadows will be less likely to save you from jumping to your death – but you’ll also get completely new ways to interact with the environment:

  • You can jump into thin air from any height and from anywhere. Whether you land safely somewhere is entirely up to you.
  • Side jumps while climbing no longer automatically take your character upwards; you can also use them to reach lower platforms.
  • A manual jump can help you bridge the distance to an elevated position on your own.
  • In addition, a familiar feature from previous installments is making a comeback. If you fall into the depths, you can still try to hold on to a ledge at the push of a button.
  • With the vertical grip, you can now also grab non-standing objects such as crossbeams, lamps, or small pillars.
  • You’ll have to try it out to see how much freedom this actually offers. But fans of the older games in the series will certainly be happy if the parkour feels a little more manual than it does now. You can see how it all looks in action in the trailer:

    Even more new features

So much for the new parkour options. But Ubisoft wants to deliver even more content to keep you playing Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. That’s why so-called Flawed Castles are also planned for October 28. They offer the following advantages:

    • Any fortress you have already completed can be corrupted by the Animus.
    • Five such fortresses can appear at any time of the year.
    • New, corrupted enemies lurk in the fortresses, which are particularly strong and promise better rewards.

In addition, another update will be released on November 25, introducing a new, free quest to the game. The quest is intended to be light-hearted and humorous, with new puzzles, but it will also introduce some cool new gameplay features:

    • During the quest, Naoe learns a powerful jump kick that allows her to throw enemies several meters backwards, just like Yasuke.
    • Yasuke learns how to secretly take out enemies without killing them right away.
    • There will also be a duel between Yasuke and Naoe! You can then choose one of the two and find out if you can defeat the other in a duel.

Shadows appears for the Switch 2

At the end of the year, Switch players will finally have the opportunity to travel through the feudal Japan of Shadows. The game will be released on December 2 for the Switch 2 and will include all updates and improvements released at that time.

Switch 2 players will only have to wait a little longer for the big Awaji expansion. The DLC is not scheduled to be released for the Nintendo version until 2026. However, there will also be cross-progression on the Switch! This means you can continue playing on the mobile platform with the same game scores as on the PC.
